After 47 bazillion years of dating, Jaysun (Chris's high school buddy) and Louisa (his sweet and lovely fiancee) finally got married at University Methodist Church on the UT campus (during which David announced -- fairly loudly -- that "his belly was full, but he's not going to throw up"). Their reception at The French Legation in Austin could not have been more beautiful...the weather was stellar, the bride was gorgeous, and we spent a bit of time with some old friends. It was a good day for flowers and cake.
So we've been doing quite a bit of whining about being sick and tired (literally) of stupid Indiana winter, so this trip to Texas was the shot in the arm that we truly needed. Emily and Chris finally got to take their zipline tour of Hill Country (we tried a few years ago but got rained out, and 100 feet up in a tree, hanging from metal wires, is not where you want to be during a thunderstorm). We visited a new downtown park and were keenly reminded of just why we love Austin so much...parks, green space, dirty Tex-Mex restaurants, fiddlehead ferns for sale in the grocery stores, recycling bins, and hippies abound...
Counting down the days until our weekend trip to Texas for Jaysun & Louisa's wedding and to see Grandma and Papa!
Whether it was the pizza plate, the bike wheels (used to burn off the pizza) or the skates on the roller girls, we had a roundabout kind of week. Gradually we're warming up, we're getting out, and do we ever have a three-year-old...
Between this week's tour of the fire station, open house at Chris's new office, a freshly-cleaned carpets (thank you, Christopher), a lovely bike ride Sunday morning (which we will turn into a weekly tradition), washed cars, and ending the weekend at Five Guys, we are so ready for spring. There's something about being able to tun the furnace off and open up the doors that gives us so much energy and puts us in a much better mood. Granted, the fact that we were both able to take little naps here and there this weekend helped a lot, too...And please don't judge us based on the photographic documentation of What David Ate this week. This coming week there will be more green things, I promise
It was a busy week and we're temporarily sidelined with The Crud, but we've hit a warming trend, we've flung wide the doors, taken a few afternoon walks, and gotten a little pep in our steps. Next thing you know it'll be 90 degrees and we'll be complaining about the heat, but right now we're just savoring the little green stems poking up from the ground and we're starting to plan some summer road trips. You watch...it'll snow this week.
We were all relieved to learn Friday that Emily remains employed, though it was a tense and emotional week at work. Nevertheless, we spent the weekend laughing as much as possible and trying to regroup. Life with a three-year-old proves to be both challenging and hilarious, and it seems like we spent most of Sunday in the bathroom with him, but sooner or later he’s really going to earn those Batman underpants...
Grandma and Grandpa keep taking more pictures of their grandson!
Some of us stayed at home, some of us made ourselves at home, and some of us went home for the last time. Chris settled into his new office and was busy around the house while Emily and David made "one last trip" to Virginia before Nana and Cappy head off to their new house in April. We played, we did some crying, and we're all looking forward to happy times to come. Most of all, wherever we were (or will be), we're thankful for our family and our friends.
After chance to refocus our priorities as a family, we are back to a happier place. We stuffed a Big Boy bedroom set into the Prius for David, we had a nice Valentine's Day dinner, and we spent a morning at the zoo watching some animals enjoying the cool weather.
