Vacation 2009 Continues

Naked and airborn in the driveway: the way every beach trip should end
Working on wiffle ball skillz in the backyard
Not surprisingly, David did not hit this one. I blame the pitcher, whose other hand was full of cheap beer
Really, the fireworks weren't all that loud
The 2009 Holden Beach 4th of July Pyrotechnics Extravaganza
Time for the evening round of lawn sports. First up: bocce
Next up: weight lifting with resistance
Dude, somebody looks a little tired from too much beach
We have to coax David's spiky hair, but Uncle Kevin's just looks that way naturally
IMG_3656
It made Nana a little crazy to see all those Play-Doh colors being mixed up
Not so hot with the throwing of the football. Aim higher next time, kiddo
Playing outside before breakfast
Posing with Uncle Kevin on the Battleship North Carolina in Wilmington
Getting into stuff he probaly should not have been getting into
Big diesel engines, what more could you ask for?
Psh...Dude doesn't even know his port from his starboard
All hands on deck
And so it begins. The 2009 Diekemper-Hansen-Sherry photo shoot, coming to a Christmas card near you this holiday season
One of 47 standing shots we took. How about that bunting?
Priceless. Thanks to the magic of Photoshop, it looks like everyone is smiling in the same shot.
This was the only one in this particular series where all three of them were looking at a camera (though not this one)
The original Diekempers, and a David for good luck
We still marvel at how Cappy got Emily, and how Nana got Sara Jane
This is one reason why pictures took so long
Here are four more reasons why pictures took so long
Man, waiting for the grown-ups to take pictures is so lame. Why they don't want me in every picture is beyond me
Totally cracking himself up
Uncle Kevin plays his own version of air guitar
Team Hansen
Here we are again, in the one version of this shot that did not have Chris' head encircled by the wreath on the door
Nana and Cappy displaying patriot colors in front of their beautiful new home
Really, Nana wasn't actually trying to catch the flag in her teeth
I really wish Sara and Kevin liked David a little more
Team Sherry going for the classy porch pose
Ahh, summer feet
Helping Cappy make one of his specialties: ice cream in the garage
What? Drinking and ice cream don't mix?
Here's Emily trying to get all Andy Goldsworthy on the beach
No sand dollars, only nickels and dimes
For the rest of the week, David would also collect shells for his own "art projects".. Fortunately, we were practicing a catch and release policy with shells, so not too may actually came home with us
Oh, yeah. Looks like an awesome</> beach day
The horizontal is for you, Nana
A little mad that it rained on our lunches
Now he's reallymad that it rained on our lunches
Oh, bother...there's sand on my towel
A rainy day at the beach is better than a regular day just about anywhere else
We passed this water slide park every time we went to the beach, and every time we passed it David mentioned that he wanted to go. So we did
Admission: $8. Total number of times down the slides: 4
You can tell from the overjoyed expression on his face that he truly is having a blast
Yeah, we left after this trip down. He was disappointed he couldn't go on the bigger slides, but he wasn't tall enough. Maybe next summer... or when he's 9
As much as Nana tried to get him to use the boogie board, Dude just wasn't ready for it yet. But it was great to have one more thing to have to haul to and from the beach
We draw the line at lightening and thunder
Our shelter from the storm
It was actually pretty chilly once the wind picked up
Cappy, ever the sailor, knows how to sleep through a storm
We got a kick out of the sign: "FATZ: Carolina born and breaded". Uh, I think I'll have the salad instead
See those things there in the distance? We call those mountains
