Grandma and Papa Come for a Visit

As if jumping into the pool was hard for this kid
So, over the pat few weeks, we've been bragging about the variety of foods David eats. Wednesday, we went to a Vietnamese restaurant, and the kid cowed down on tofu spring rolls, pan-seared noodles, and then proceeded to slurp all the broth out of Emily's fish soup. Fish. Soup.
Off to a calm, even-tempered start with Grandma and Papa
Ahh, the first pool of the summer.
It mattered not that the water was a bit more chilly than grown-ups preferred, but we jumped right in after him anyway
Yeah, jumping into the pool? Not a problem
He will do this again and again and again. And for Chris, may I suggest the Photoshop for your farmer's tan issue?
We're still working on using his arms and kicking at the same time. I know...it's a lot to think about simultaneously
Chris and David went for a walk in some mud, so this came in handy for rinsing off
He had been swimming in the pool, butt he decided to take a crack at playing with this fountain
It's a shame he can't muster up a happy face or a feeling of sheer joy
I'm sure he could have stayed and played under these spouts for hours if given the chance
Saturday afternoon we visited with the Drews (Alice and Paul's friends from Downer's Grove) and they brought Emma and Kerry, their grandchildren. Shortly before leaving, we had the requisite photo ops and let the kids make silly faces. Clearly
Cheeses all around
Kerry, Randy, Emma, and Sandy
Sharing some very important information, no doubt
David and Kerry face off
This was about how the whole afternoon went

It's either a waffle coma or he's tired because he woke up at 6:15am.
Sticking his head in a Ford GT, wishing and hoping and thinking and praying of turning 40 and earning his midlife crisis
A 1950s Suburban with red headlights and the coolest green flames ever
Another 1956 Suburban, proud to be an American (and also proud to have LEDs underneath the running board)
Shocking green shocks
Chris and David spent $1 and five minutes on the carousel
On the train, ready to head back to downtown Noblesville (a whopping 5 minute ride, but worth it)
"Lil' Tow" from Noblesville
Ah, the good old days of trucking, when a cab didn't have its own shower and home theatre and kitchenette
Half the fun was talking with the car owners, who loved nothing more than having kids climbing all over their cars...brave, brave folks
Still a little too short to reach the pedals
Should I be surprised if someday he really does become a firefighter?
A Sparrow, some sort of electric concept car. This one was from California (big surprise...hippies)
David kept wanting to look at the "silly bus", the VW Vannegun
We did tell him the Army men could use guns, and how convenient that the Jeep had one right within arm's reach? We did not point this out to him
Quite possibly the world's baddest Little Red Wagon
As if the train ride and car show wasn't enough fun, the playround had diggers just like the one at Grandma and Papa's park at home
These were a little big, so Chris helped out as assistant foreman
He was not so sure of the new-fangled teeter-totter
Getting this right apparently takes a little more cooperation than either one of them was willing to contribute to the overall effort
Thank goodness Chris can handle the carousel, because Emily would throw up
This train better get going before the sock monkey gets it
A great blue heron sulks across the pond where the ducks refused to eat our bread
As is usually the case this time of evening, we need a little less conversation, a little more action
Papa takes a turn with Curious George Flies a Kite giving Emily and Chris (mostly Chris) a break for one night
David almost looks tired in this picture. But don't let that fool you. He's really not tired
