From Water to Wine

This week had its low points, but it certainly had its high points, too. We've frozen a bounty of strawberries, David is learning to swim, we enjoyed a lovely weekend, and got to spend some time with Nate and Suzanne at Oliver Winery in Bloomington. Bread, cheese, wine, brownies, wine, and some aggressive geese...what better way to spend a Sunday afternoon?
First day of swimming lessons, and he did surprisingly well. We've learned that his attention span n this environment is about 20 minutes. Class lasts for 30 minutes. You do the math
Tuesday afternoon we finally made it out to go strawberry picking This was way more fun without hailstones
We found several mammoth berries hiding amongst the pnats, so those always warranted a "Hey Mommy! I found a huge one!"
He got distracted by a dump truck. There was quarry down the road from the farm, and since we were there around 5pm, that turned out to be quitting time for People Who Work at the Quarry, so there was fascinating traffic as well as local produce
Just killing time and being cute while Chris ran into the grocery store to buy a strawberry huller. They didn't have any, so we ended up hulling 15 pounds of berries by hand. We both went to sleep with tummyaches, and our fingers were still pink the next morning
The requiite annual photo of the frog that lives on our patio. Welcome back, little friend
If only there was an Army fire truck parked outside of Old Navy every time Emily dragged them there, I am sure they woud enjoy going shopping much, much more. For whatever reason, it was Fire Safety Day at Old Navy, which was ironic since one of the homes in our neighbiorhood caught fire last week. We're working on "smooshing the fire" with David, AKA "Stop, Drop, and Roll"

Sunday morning, post bike ride. We figured it was safer to let him push the bike trailer around the yard than it was to let him stay in the driveway (and thus banging into the cars). He's also very proud of his new Mike and the Bike helmet. Did you know about Mike and the Bike? Neither did we. Apparently it's a thing that kids like, and we got suckered into buying it. Hey, safety first...
Suzanne planned a lovely picnic for us Sunday at Oliver Winery. David especially loved the chevrie and lemon curd she made
For being so spolied, these geese were very mean and hissed a lot. Although, when you have a three-year-old chasing your babies, one earns the right to hiss. And charge. And get very close to biting. Of course, we felt like bad parents because we laughed the whole time this was happening
Wine, water, and a lovely centerpiece. We ended the meal with a bit of Camera Envy, as Nate foled around with their new toy
He's really into juming nowadays. Maybe it's because he learned about kangaroos at school last week
Taking a seat
And he wonders why we make him wash his hands seventeen times a day
Suzanne helped him feed the gigantic koi down in the pond. And she has a nice new camera
