Outdoor Living

Neck is red, legs are sore, garden is planted, fingernails are still muddy, cookies are baked, body is tired. Happy, glorious weekend!

Bless his teachers/ hearts, he just wasn't into naps much this week. However, when he came home, he informed us that he needed to sleep for a little while, and when we came up to check on him, this is where we found him
One of the things we love most about sprintime are the crab apples. We planted one in our backyard last year and it flowered marvelously for a small tree, but this is what he have to look forward to someday...
Jake aims for a hole-in-one at the Fishers Arbor Day Festival on Friday afternoon. It was really windy, but a lot of fun
So, the original plan was to go out to eat with the kids after the Festival, but the energy level (see here) was a bit high for dinner in public.
David, Toby, and Jake prove that all the world's a stage...and add Tamsyn and Sam (who we met up with a few minutes later) and there was no way we were going to find a) a table for 11 and b) a restaurant that wouldn't hate us by the time we left
So we ended up back at our house with a stop at Five Guys on the way and a backyard just ready for romping in
How is that whenever we have friends over, the men always end up outside with the kids, and the ladies end up chatting inside? Awesome, isn't it?
Toby (who lost his pants but kept his Crocs) wonders why this remote control keeps getting stuck
Note: 75% of the toys currently in the sandbox should so not be in the sandbox
See all that sand? Yeah, that ended up in my house
Our crab apple did pretty well for its first full year in the ground
Volunteer (marauer) strawberries might be taking up space normally saved for cucumbers, but we left them there because they'll be so yummy
He insisted on pulling the cart all by himself because "he's very strong, right?"
Eventually we convinced him that it would be much more time efficient if Daddy helped a little bit
David wanted a picnic for lunch, so we made it real fancy-like in the backyard
And this is what happens if you leave Daddy to watch him (along with a wet bag of dirt) for three minutes. Muddy hands, happy boy
Not sure why we let David have the hose (although he was already soaked). Bad idea on our part
Chris kept threatening to spray David with the hose, so he did. David got wet
For whatever reason, he just really liked running around in these wet pants
David helped us plant a pizza garden with two kinds of tomatoes, basil, and a bell pepper. Mangia!
This year's patio pots with the filler (coleus), the thriller (dracanea) and the spiller (sweet potato). We'll see if this plan actually works
Nice orange refreshement
Again, who let the kid have the hose? You'll notice that Emily seems to be wanting to rest a bit and relax in her chair, and all these shenanigans ensue. Cooincidence?
Mint. In its own pot. So it will not spread (even though we drink enough mojitos in the summer to be able to handle a few renegade herbs)
Sniff. He's getting too big for his little red car
After the Best Buddies 5K race we did on Sunday morning, we headed back across the bridge to the Zoo. David (though he had just been riding for 3.1 miles) decided he needed another lift, and this time not in the stroller
We were on our way out when we happened across Linus (the grey seal) and Jenny doing a behavior demonstration just outside of holding. How cool!
After the demo, he squirmed and crawled his way back inside
The Fire Fighters convention was this weekend, and as we headed past the Convention Center after doing our recycling, David spotted an airport fire truck.
He informed us after the race (and the Zoo) that he was ready to take a nap when he got back to his home, but it couldn't quite wait. Note te impressive string of drool coming from the corner of his mouth
Chris gave him a dirty cone to scrub to keep him occupied
On the left: mud. On the right: soon to be muddy
After looking in 47 different stores for glazed cobalt blue flower pots, Emily just gave up and did it herself. Of course, it wasn't exactly the color blue she'd been looking for, but at $3.79 for a can of spray paint and a good use for some old clay pots that had spent several winters under a tarp on the side of the house, this was a good arts and crafts project, and now the re-potted plants inside are much happier and coordinate much better with the decor. Thank goodness. Keeping David away from the spray paint was another story, however...
