Nursing a Vitamin D deficiency

So we've been doing quite a bit of whining about being sick and tired (literally) of stupid Indiana winter, so this trip to Texas was the shot in the arm that we truly needed. Emily and Chris finally got to take their zipline tour of Hill Country (we tried a few years ago but got rained out, and 100 feet up in a tree, hanging from metal wires, is not where you want to be during a thunderstorm). We visited a new downtown park and were keenly reminded of just why we love Austin so much...parks, green space, dirty Tex-Mex restaurants, fiddlehead ferns for sale in the grocery stores, recycling bins, and hippies abound...
It used to be we looked forward to going to the airport because we would drink a big beer at the TGI Fridays (classy). Now we look forward to the airport because of the Chicago-style popcorn and the requisite trip to the bathroom afterwards to wash hands and faces
We were so breaking the rules by letting him lean forward during take-off. His seat belt was still on, for what it was worth
Thank goodness for the Children's Museum of Chicago's "extension campus" at O'Hare...we spent almost two hours playing here during our layover
And about two minutes later, we needed to take a trip to the bathroom (for obvious reasons)
This kid is messier than all get out, but he gets all OCD about stuff like oranges
Busy refueling the plane and limbing on the tanker truck
He wouldn't use the pedals here, either, even though they made the propellers above him turn around
No wings pin, but he did get to peek into the cockpit and talk with the pilots for a minute
Loud and probably angry, but so handsome

Really, we have no idea where he learned to be so polite and well-behaved
So dainty, so composed, so ladylike with ankles crossed and a smile on her face
A little faster, a little higher, a little more exhilirating. Hence the yelling
Observing proper protocol with the straps over the shoulder and hands on the rail
We're so high right now
You can't tell from the picture, but we're actually leaning wy back over the edge of a 100-foot platform. I also wish someone had told me my hair looked stupid hanging out the side of my helmet
There's only one person cooler than Tarzan
You would not believe how excited David was to get to ride in a real truck. This may be the first time he ever saw the road from the front seat
Who's more excited about this trip to Home Depot, David or Papa?
The slightly less-traditional version of the traditional spring bluebonnet photo
Small boy, big park. Friday night Grandma and Papa took us downtown to the park at Auditorium Shores in Austin. Lots of green space, recycling containers everywhere, and hippies on every blanket. What a great town!
This is how we roll. David needs to learn how to properly roll down a hill, seeing as how we don't have any of those in Indiana
Mommy's looking at the juice box, wishing it was a margarita (and that it was hers instead)
Do you understand how hard it was to keep him still when all he wanted to do was run amok?
Who knew there was a supermodel on location in the park on Friday night?
Big sky, beautiful country
Springtime in Austin
This is the best we're going to be able to do with his bluebonnet shot.
As David would say, the sky looks like "it's getting nighter"
The fountain gave us a brilliant light show every 15 minutes or so. We stayed for three of them
If it had been about 20 degrees warmer, trust me...that kid would have been in his underwear running around in the fountains
What a gem, to have in the middle of downtown!
